Throughout American history, “We the People” have amended our Constitution 27 times—transforming it in important ways. Through the Article V amendment process, we often make it a “more perfect” document.
In this activity, you will learn about key periods of constitutional change and explore the 27 amendments to the Constitution.

Overview
This activity is designed to be completed in two 45-minute class periods along with one optional 30-minute activity. The activity consists of the following parts:
- Background—Students watch 27 Amendments Walkthrough Video and complete the Video Reflection: 27 Amendments Walkthrough worksheet (45 minutes).
- Investigation—Using the Visual Info Brief: Amendments to the Constitution and the Info Brief: Periods of Constitutional Change and the 27 Amendments, students learn about the background and purpose of the individual amendments (20 minutes).
- Diving Deeper—Students use the Activity Guide: 27 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution as a graphic organizer to organize their findings and thoughts about the 27 amendments (25 minutes).
- Let's Get Creative!(optional)—Students use the Activity Guide: 27 Amendments Matching Game to practice matching the amendments to their big ideas (30 minutes).
