Lesson 2: Era 1 Overview | 1.1WATCH: Collective Learning
Collective learning is one of the developments that made our species distinct from others. It is the human ability to use language to share and pool information. This ability helped us to innovate and to grow our knowledge and skills over time. But it is also possible for a ‘glitch’ to get in the system and for mistaken ideas to be spread through collective learning.

- Collective learning and culture are related concepts, but they are not the same thing.
Collective learning refers to the ability of a group of individuals to share and accumulate knowledge over time. It is the process by which a group of people can build upon the discoveries, innovations, and insights of previous generations, leading to the development of new ideas and technologies.
Culture, on the other hand, refers to the shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, and artifacts that characterize a group or society. Culture is passed down from one generation to the next through socialization, education, and other forms of communication, and it shapes the way people see the world and interact with one another.
In other words, collective learning is a process of accumulating knowledge and information, while culture is the set of practices, beliefs, and values that result from that process of learning and sharing information. Collective learning can contribute to the development and transmission of culture, but it is not the same thing as culture itself.(4 votes) - Q1- Collective learning is langauge and culture to share and pull from
Q2- Cause its the reason were learning from before we existed its us pulling information from people before us
Q3-Symbolic language gives us the ability to communicate very powerful ideas, gestures, language, culture that no other species has been able to do
Q4-Because unecessary ideas get in and get passed on where we actually arent learning from them were getting taken back from where we were because of the idea instead of learning from it
Q5- Khan academy(2 votes) - How is it that we (Homo Sapiens Sapiens) are smarter than other Hominids? How do we know that the other Hominids weren't as smart as we are?(0 votes)
- I believe vast scientific research has proved this, under particular circumstances. Everyone and everything are educated within particular fields, although, as a... Generalization, earlier species weren't as educated as we are today.
Not only through technology, which was obviously unachievable, but the collective knowledge humans possess & consistently reinforce amongst other individuals (including ourselves). Even if such knowledge isn't accepted amongst everyone, we're always able to accept, deflect and create ideologies with ease.
As aforementioned within some lessons (including this one, where 'collective learning' is applicable to my comment), they didn't maintain an adequate language & hardly socialized outside of immediate family, didn't obtain much wit, and perhaps weren't as conscious as we are--which is an addition as to why their lives were short lived [aside from the dangerous conditions in which they lived in]. It was challenging for them to operate within such conditions throughout.
Not implying they were mentally inadequate, as I believe they were more capable than us in a specific myriad of ways! Take the neanderthal for instance, they accomplished a generous number of things & were essentially pioneers for later species of humans.
Given we're the most superior species created, we consistently have the able option to evolve at will... Which is what we will do & continue to!
Aside from history channels/courses, you can observe documentaries of tribespeople who still adapt the lifestyle of earlier humans--with particular modernizing features such as wit and a proper language [etc.]--to further understand and potentially grasp how life was like for them!
An insightful, entertaining comparison I like to do is compare how different peoples maintain under extreme weather conditions... It allows me to identify where culture & collective learning differentiate amongst individuals, whilst actively educating me.
Additional note:
I found the other comment interesting, as there's a theory that humans essentially came from Mars (& crashed in a pod-like machine). I personally don't believe it, but it's fun to learn and conclude!
Not to mention there's approximately two-trillion galaxies. So, the possibility that you're existing beyond the Milky Way, doing the exact same thing as you are now, is considerable.(2 votes)
